Apollo to set up new production line for SUV tyres.
After announcing its entry to the Indian two wheeler market with the launch of its Acti series Apollo Tyres, one of the largest tyre manufacturers in India is gearing up to set up a new production line dedicated to SUV tyres at its plant in Baroda, Gujrat.
The new product manufacturing line will add an additional capacity of around 3000 SUV tyres/day in addition to the tyres already being produced at its other lines. In February alone the market for entry level SUV’s grew over 75% owing to a number of new launches including KUV100, TUV300 & Creta. The growth in the SUV sector, especially the compact SUV segment has been quite impressive in the recent past which makes this an opportune time for big players in the market to give their product a push.
Satish Sharma, President APMEA region (Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa) at Apollo Tyres said that,
“SUVs are really happening everywhere in the world so Apollo is putting up a dedicated line for SUV tyres.” He added, “Apollo is still specializing on to the white-lettered types (mostly used for off-roading), the ones that the company sees jutting out of the vehicles these days.” Apollo Tyres hopes to target the young generation with these off-roading SUV tyres.
Apollo Tyres is also in plans to double its TBR (truck-bus radial) tyre production from 6000 tyres per day to 12,000 tyres per day. Apollo tyres has already pumped in Rs 2,700 crores in the capacity expansion at its Chennai plant.
