BMW & VW RECALL i3 and Golf in Australia.

BMW has issues a recall for its i3 range-extended electric models in Australia, due to a potential fuel leak. The carmaker has identified a weakness with the i3’s fuel tank ventilation line, which may make contact with the vehicle, rubbing through.

The resulting damage may allow fuel to leak, leading to a potential fire hazard. As the i3 BEV (battery-only) has no fuel tank, it is unaffected by this recall. Affected i3s were sold between July 2014 and November 2016, with 224 examples on the recall list for Australia.

Volkswagen has also issued a recall, concerning its Golf small car.

Affected models are from the 2016 and 2017 model-years, and 411 examples are on the recall list for Australia. The recall targets a tyre placard label, which may be displaying the incorrect specifications for the vehicle.

Should an owner be misinformed by the placard, a wheel and tyre combination may be fitted that does not match the manufacturer’s specifications. This could compromise the handling of the vehicle, creating a hazard for the occupants and other road users.
