Continental tires develops warning system against aquaplaning

Aquaplaning is a vexing issue faced by drivers, when presence of water on the road leads to a loss control over the handling of a car due to reduction of friction between tyres and the road surface.

Continental tires is developing a technology that derives a factor of wetness recognition through specially designed algorithms. This is calculated and fed into sensors attached to the car tyres , thereafter bringing this information in the form of a warning to the driver.

The driver can reduce speed much before aquaplaning reaches a dangerous level.

It is also possibly to connect this system to the brakes of the vehicle so that the driver’s reaction may not be needed for the car’s safety systems to activate brakes in a synchronized manner on each wheel separately.

At a later stage this system may also be in a position to warn other cars through car to car communication.
