Goodyear unveils BHO3 – tyre that generates electricity.
Goodyear introduced a new concept tyre at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show. The BHO3 tyre, unveiled by Goodyear will have a special feature which will generate electricity while moving & even in the stationary position.
At the unveiling Goodyear said that the ultra-black texture of the tyre will make sure that it absorbs maximum heat & light resulting in the tyre to generate heat while in a stationary position as well as due to friction while driving. The tyre will be lined with a fishnet pattern of thermo-piezoelectric material. Squeezing these piezoelectric materials results in building up of electrical charge. The properties of piezoelectric materials helps them harvest energy by the friction of the tyre rolling along the road.
As per Goodyear, the net will turn heat into electrical current & will also provide the structural support to the tyre. In case of a puncture, it can continue to travel at 80 km/h (50 mph) for 80 km (50 miles). Moreover, this net also improves rolling resistance.
This BHO3 concept tyre is yet a concept, and there are no details available regarding its price or its potential release date. However you can watch the unveiling video for this tyre by Clicking Here
