Michelin rolls out latest farm tyres at North American show.
Michelin is displaying several of its latest agricultural tyres at the Farm Progress Show, which wraps up today in Decatur, Illinois. Featured at the event is Michelin’s AgriBIB2, which is designed for row-crop applications for high-hp tractors from 150hp to more than 500hp.
The tyre succeeds the AgriBIB and is positioned as an affordable, premium row-crop tyre. It offers a more competitive price than the previous AgriBIB, yet offers high traction due to its R1W tread depth and 45-degree lug angle, according to the company. The tyre’s tread pattern improves stubble resistance and its radial casing carries more weight with higher endurance than the first-generation tyre. The 380/80R38 142A8/139D and 480/80R50 159A8/159B sizes will be available in September, followed by 13 additional dimensions in 2018.
Also on display is Michelin’s EvoBIB that is a patented 2-in-1 tyre that adjusts pressure and usage, allowing farmers to operate tractors with greater than 250hp more efficiently in the field or on the road. Coming to North America in summer 2018, the central tyre Inflation system-enabled tyre works at ultra-low pressures in the field. It has a contact patch that increases in size by up to 20% to reduce soil compaction. While working at higher pressures on the road, the EvoBIB transforms so that only the central continuous tread band grips the pavement.
This results in a smoother, vibration-free ride, fuel savings, and improved safety, Michelin said. The tyre will be available in VF600/70R30 165D and VF 710/70R42 179D sizes. Other Michelin agricultural tyres on display at the Farm Progress Show include the RoadBIB designed for 200+ hp tractors, the Crossgrip non-directional prototype tyre, the Loadster designed for very-high-speed, very-high-load capacity applications and the LifeBIB concept tyre that is designed to support future tractors and combines.
