Pirelli adopts new sustainable natural rubber policy.
Pirelli has adopted a new 12-point sustainable natural rubber policy that is intended to preserve forests and help develop local communities and economies. The policy acknowledges the increase in global demand for natural rubber and covers the entire supply chain including tier 2 suppliers.
The company said: “Pirelli is committed to promote, develop and implement a sustainable and responsible procurement and use of natural rubber throughout its entire value chain. In addition to engaging with its contractors, Pirelli fosters and supports forms of valuable active cooperation at industrial sector level and among stakeholders playing a material role in the natural rubber value chain, in the conviction, a shared effort can grant a stronger and faster move towards sustainable development of the global natural rubber supply chain.”
The policy says Pirelli endorses protection of human rights, promotes decent working conditions, and protection of ecosystems, flora and fauna. It also calls for no deforestation, no peat and no burn; preservation of resources, ethics, traceability and risk mapping, governance, cooperation and constructive dialogue as key players, internationally recognized forms of certification, policy implementation, communication on progress, and a complaint procedure.
