Pirelli returns to cycling with race tyre line.
Pirelli has announced it is returning to the bicycle tyre segment with the launch of its PZero Velo range. The PZero name is borrowed from Pirelli’s high-performance car and motorbike tyres, which it says have been a “symbol of high technology, exclusive solutions and high performance” for more than 30 years.
The bike tyre range consists of three options that will use the same color coding system that Pirelli applies to its Formula One racing tyres. Silver represents road racing tyres, red is for time trials, and blue is for fourseason tyres. The Italian tyre maker hasn’t offered any specific details about the new range yet, but says it will detail the line at a launch event in June.
The tyres will be available for purchase in September in Europe, North America and the APAC region. Antonella Lauriola, COO of Pirelli’s Velo business unit, commented: “We are excited about this return to cycling. For our bike tyres, we draw on a unique heritage of knowledge, technology and sporting experience. Pirelli’s offer today is completed with tyres made for those consumers who look for innovative and technological bike products as they do for their cars and bikes. We chose to start from the racing segment, which is the most challenging in technical terms, but also the most consistent with our racemarked history.”
Pzero Velo tyres will also be available online through an ecommerce site, which aims to offer consumers digital services and tailor-made products, according to Pirelli.
