UAE set to introduce digital tyre-monitoring system.
A hi-tech digital tyre-monitoring system will be introduced late this year in the United Arab Emirates, according to Emarat Al Youm newspaper.
All tyres will be fitted with special chips to monitor their safety and detect any foul play and tampering with required quality standards or fake tyres.
Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA) said that the new system would be enforced during the last quarter of this year.
The new measure aims at reducing the rate of road of accidents which result from low-standard tyres.
ESMA officials gave a 90-day deadline for importers and outlets to regulate their situation and comply with the new technology.
“Each tyre will be fitted with a digital number which is readable, with only one smartphone or scan imaging device in hand,” said ESMA director-general Abdulla Abdulqader Al Maini.
