Volvo selects three Continental tyres for XC60 SUV model.
Volvo Cars has approved Continental’s ContiEcoContact 5, ContiSportContact 5 and ContiCrossContact LX Sport 20 tyres for use as original equipment on the new Volvo XC60 luxury SUV. The tyres will be supplied in sizes 235/60 R 18, 235/55 R 19 and 255/45 R and are marked “VOL” to indicate the original equipment specification.
Two of the models, the ContiSportContact 5 in size 235/55 R 19 and the ContiCrossContact LX Sport in size 255/45 R 20, are equipped with ContiSilent technology. These tyres have a coating on the inside of the tread that reduces tyre/road noise. In the replacement market, the tyres are available from Volvo dealerships and tyre dealers; the 20-inch size is only offered in the US. The ContiSportContact 5 is suitable for sporty cars and SUVs and offers sport handling characteristics, high grip and short braking distances on wet and dry roads.
Key to the tyre’s performance is the black chili compound that Continental says is designed for maximum force transmission under braking and low rolling resistance during normal driving. The ContiEcoContact 5 combines short braking distances on wet and dry roads with low rolling resistance. Compared to the predecessor model, this tyre offers 20% lower rolling resistance and 12% higher mileage. The ContiCrossContact LX Sport was developed for use as original equipment and has received approvals from European, American and Japanese SUV manufacturers.
