Yokohama Rubber has announced that it is now applying informatics, or information engineering, in rubber development and tyre design.
The company is using AI (artificial intelligence or machine learning) to conduct information and knowledge searches and says it expects to significantly increase the speed and precision of its high-performance tyre development. In the past, Yokohama Rubber used applied simulation technologies for rubber materials development and tyre design.
With the new process, AI is used to conduct information and knowledge searches that were previously performed by technicians. Using AI translates to a more objective and quantitative analysis of tyre design factors and provides a more balanced array of performance attributes that are suitable for various product categories, the company said.
The new technology also makes it possible to use data from a vast design space that far exceeds the scope of previous studies, which will aid Yokohama’s research team in making new breakthroughs. The company’s researchers will also be able to conduct more in-depth analysis and come up with new development approaches.
