Yokohama Tyres Gets Major Break Through In ISOPRENE Production With BIOMASS
A major break through in ISOPRENE production with biomass by YOKOHAMA Tyres
As a result of a joint research project between Yokohama Rubber, Riken Center for Sustainable Resource Science (CSRS) and producers of synthetic rubber Zeon a technology capable of efficiently producing isoprene from biomass has been developed.
The research team has confirmed that this technology can be applied to butadiene-
based synthetic rubber and other diene rubbers resulting in reducing dependence on petroleum based rubber production and also reduction of the carbon footprint caused in this industry.
Yokohama is one of Japan’s largest tyre manufacturers with a worldwide presence and this effort towards sustainable products certainly deserves a round of applause to this team.
